Salvation Mountain & Salton Sea

This was an impromptu vacay with Mum just a week before I moved to Japan (a much needed one at that). It was a quick weekend trip to LA but we ended up spending most of our time in the desert (I LOVE hot dry weather). It was great to see my relatives before moving and gave me that reassurance I have a "home" somewhere in this world.  The two major purpose of the trip was to have tear jerking moments with the fam and visit Salvation Mountain and Salton sea. Which I can confidently report was accomplished!

My uncles amazing backyard! So lucky.

Salvation Mountain in all its glory. It was breath taking, if you're ever in the desert you HAVE to come here.

Salton Sea.  The coolest (and creepiest point) was that its sand is made of dead fish and shells. It's an extremely saline lake so only a few type of fish and other organisms can live in it. However as you can see these pelicans don't mind it much.

Also what these pictures don't tell you is that the Salton Sea smells like a porta potty, or someone taking a really bad dump (._____.)
